Playlist Studio, in collaboration with Kakao Entertainment and Fuji Television, has officially announced their upcoming series, Secret Relationship (working title), a new BL drama adapted from a popular Kakao Webtoon. The highly-anticipated drama is set to bring a heartwarming and intricate romance to the screen, featuring rising stars like WEi’s Kim Jun Seo, Cha Sun Hyung, Cha Jung Woo, and Kim Ho Young.
The storyline of Secret Relationship revolves around the complex love lives of co-workers in a professional setting. The drama aims to capture the emotional intensity and delicate nuances of its source material, exploring the tangled web of secret feelings, unexpected relationships, and the journey of self-discovery amidst the backdrop of a typical office environment.
WEi’s Kim Jun Seo has been cast as Da On, a bright and cheerful character who finds himself caught in a confusing yet thrilling romance at work. Known for his charismatic on-stage presence and budding acting career, Jun Seo is expected to bring a refreshing energy to the role, marking an exciting new chapter for the idol-turned-actor.
Cha Sun Hyung will portray Sung Hyun, a reserved and stoic figure who struggles with expressing his emotions. Trouble in Paradiso: podcast company goes bankrupt – Podnews
Podcast production company Paradiso Media has started bankruptcy proceedings in a French court. The company was founded in June 2019, and acquired competitor Binge Audio in May 2023: at the time it had 170 shows and 50 employees, based in Paris, Los Angeles and New York. Paradiso raised $5.9mn in investment in Sept 2021. We understand that Binge Audio, still a separate company, continues its operations.

iHeart’s average weekly downloads in the Podtrac ranker for June are 78mn, 18% higher than Triton’s number, despite both solutions being IAB Certified. Over the last month, trying to understand why they’re different, Podnews spoke to Podtrac, Triton, iHeart and the IAB – and learnt:

The most popular podcasts in Singapore are educational shows, according to research from On Device. It claims 55% of Singaporeans listen monthly to podcasts. Meanwhile, in the UK, comedy podcasts are the most popular, with 61% listening monthly.
In Spain, the Podcast Days Awards are now open for entry. You’ve until Sep 8.
How many active podcasts are there? As above, there are 322,004 (defined as any feed with at least one episode over the last 30 days). Podnews has kept daily data from The Podcast Index over the last 18 months (JSON), and while that number has decreased year-on-year, it hasn’t decreased by much. Interesting to note both the low-point (the end of the Christmas holidays) and the high-point (mid-March for some reason).
Google has a new AI tool called Illuminate, which takes a scientific paper and turns it into a five minute (dual-hosted) “podcast”. Youssef Ismail gives it a go, and posts some examples.
Always interesting to check in on our page showing podcasters switching their show to a different podcast host. Over the last thirty days, the biggest winners are Megaphone, Spotify for Podcasters, and Acast. The biggest losers are Spreaker, SoundCloud and Libsyn.

Google renders all webpages, including JavaScript-heavy sites, for search indexing.
In a recent episode of Google’s “Search Off The Record” podcast, Zoe Clifford from the rendering team joined Martin Splitt and John Mueller from Search Relations to discuss how Google handles JavaScript-heavy websites.
Google affirms that it renders all websites in its search results, even if those sites rely on JavaScript.
In the context of Google Search, Clifford explained that rendering involves using a headless browser to process web pages.
This allows Google to index the content as a user would see it after JavaScript has executed and the page has fully loaded.
Clifford stated
“We run a browser in the indexing pipeline so we can index the view of the web page as a user would see it after it has loaded and JavaScript has executed.”
One of the podcast’s most significant revelations was that Google renders all HTML pages, not just a select few. Despite the resource-intensive process, Google has committed to this approach to ensure comprehensive indexing.
Clifford confirmed:
“We just render all of them, as long as they’re HTML and not other content types like PDFs.”
She acknowledged that while the process is expensive, accessing the full content of web pages, especially those relying heavily on JavaScript, is necessary.
The team also discussed Google’s shift to using the “Evergreen Googlebot” in 2019.
This update ensures that Googlebot, Google’s web crawling bot, stays current with the latest stable version of Chrome.
This change has improved Google’s ability to render and index modern websites.
